About this course

A twenty-week professional programme run by Simplilearn and awarded by UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies, whose advisors reviewed the curriculum and lead the masterclasses. Classes are live and online rather than recorded.

The six modules follow a product from nothing to a launch. The first defines the role and the 5C+P analysis behind evaluating an organisation. The second is the longest and the most useful: problem definition, personas, customer journeys, TAM-SAM-SOM and jobs-to-be-done for sizing an idea, then RICE, Kano and MoSCoW for deciding what to build first, ending in a roadmap and a backlog managed in Jira and Aha.

The third module is the product requirements document — its structure, its writing, and the stakeholder trust that decides whether anyone follows it. The fourth is the technical literacy a product manager is expected to have without being an engineer: APIs through Postman, cloud platforms, the difference between a relational and a NoSQL store, and the AI-specific parts — data quality, and what accuracy, precision and recall actually claim. The fifth covers metrics frameworks, go-to-market, A/B testing and the financial basics including a P&L. The sixth is the job search.

Generative AI runs through the programme rather than sitting in one module: a toolkit of AI assistants for routine product work, and a separate track on building AI products and working with the teams that make them. Electives cover UX/UI, growth and product marketing, Power BI, and an AI Impact Studio workshop series.

Seven projects, ten case studies and a capstone that takes one product from user need to a first-year P&L.

What you will learn

  • Define a problem space and validate it with user personas, customer journeys and jobs-to-be-done.
  • Size an opportunity with TAM-SAM-SOM, then prioritise with RICE, Kano and MoSCoW.
  • Write a product requirements document and build the stakeholder alignment that makes it stick.
  • Manage a roadmap, backlog and release plan in Jira and Aha.
  • Work with engineers on APIs, cloud platforms and databases without being one.
  • Manage AI products: data quality, and what accuracy, precision and recall actually tell you.
  • Measure a launch with AARRR, HEART and OKRs, and run A/B tests that answer the question asked.
  • Build a go-to-market plan and project a first-year P&L for it.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Two or more years of work experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Applications are reviewed by an admission panel before a place is offered.
